Odyssey of the Mind – new teams? Sycamore-sponsored Odyssey of the Mind team is gearing up for another yearly competition.  They have offered to hold a recruiting presentation or get info to any school or group who might be interested in forming a team.  This is really a multi-disciplinary project designed for students from kindergarten through college, which uses teams to incorporate theater, dance, music, physics and problem solving abilities in a variety of challenges.  See more here: http://www.odysseyofthemind.com/  If you are interested in finding out more, please contact Frank Goulart at fgoulart@pacbell.net or Russell Choy at rchoy2000@comcast.net  .

Big Band Saturdays! Our resident big band 3 O'Clock Jump practices on many Saturday mornings from 10am-noon in the outside patio behind the lodge, when the weather is good.  Take your coffee and maybe a folding chair, and enjoy a few songs, on the way to the Farmer's Market 2 blocks away.  Park in Municipal Lot 1 and follow the music to IOOF.  They like having an audience!  See samples here:

1st Summer Concert is a Success! The first Summer Concert of the Series earned $584 for our non-profit partner FESCO, Family Emergency Shelter Coalition.  About 175 people danced to salsa and blues in the lovely outdoor amphitheater setting of Hayward’s Memorial Park.  Hayward City Councilman Mark Salinas BBQ’d (and donated) 100 lbs of chicken and corn on the cob.  Hayward Odd Fellows Sycamore Lodge #129 donated drinks, fruit, tortilla chips and cookies.  A good time was had by all!  If you missed it, please come to one of our next concerts!

Save the Hayward High H!  Before Chabot College, Cal-State, and the other high schools,  Hayward High’s old campus on Foothill Blvd. was the only game in town, the educational, social, and cultural center of Hayward for over fifty years.  A project is afoot to "Save the H" - a huge concrete H that resides on the hillside behind Safeway at the site of the historic Hayward High school,  the last vestige of the old campus.  If you’d like to help,  email Bruce Roberts at brobe60491@sbcglobal.net for more information. Or consider purchasing an engraved brick, to be installed in a patio at the base of the H hill, along with benches and informational signs about the significance of the H and the site.  Trees and brush will be cleared so the H will be visible from below.  Bricks cost $100 and can be dedicated to a special person, up to 3 lines with 15 characters per line.  See attached flyer and brick order form, and/or send your check payable to the Hayward Area Historical Society, Attention Allison Wentz, 22380 Foothill Blvd, Hayward CA 94541.

Sycamore's Voluntary Accessibility Upgrade Project  Our contractor reports that the Elevator Project is expected to commence upon issuance of the building permit.   City of Hayward website shows that the submittals have been approved and they are now preparing the list of conditions to attach to an approved building permit.
